Making school lunch healthy and tasty

We all know that kids can be fussy eaters and won’t always make the best choices where food is concerned. So, what does a parent do to ensure their children not only eat well but enjoy the experience as well?

Nutrition Australia have some great advice on this and suggest that a healthy lunch should include foods from the five core food groups:

  1. vegetables and legumes/beans
  2. fruit
  3. grain (cereal) foods, mostly wholegrain and/or high fibre
  4. lean meat and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds, and legumes/beans
  5. milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or their alternatives, mostly reduced fat

Using some creative thinking and discussion with your child will help you to create some terrific meals that won’t go in the bin or be traded with another student. It could be fun to plan and make some meals together in the evening if time allows.

For the treat factor and for those days when you have just run out of time, ideas or ingredients, remember that Tukkr lunches are all prepared by restaurants and only good food is allowed on the menu. So, use Tukkr and rest easy when you want a fresh meal delivered for your child.
